July 2 – Hiking at MRG

NOTE: This text was originally uploaded in 2017 on my PNT hike.

What a great day to have my last hike before I start the PNT on the 5th. After driving to VT in the pouring rain (and even some detours due to flooding), my one day in VT was well worth the last minute stress to leave the day after work ended. I made it up to Mad River in person, after watching over the winter on the webcams. My route took me up the work road to the top of the single, making the 2K vertical in 1 hr 15. I then took the Long Trail over to the top of the double, then followed the Sunnyside trail down Fox, and took the work road back down to the base. Overall, 5.5 miles and I’m feeling pretty good about starting in Glacier on Wednesday.

Taking a look up the single chair from the base area.

On the way up, the junction splitting the single and double chairs.

The bull-wheel at the top of the double chair.

Great view over the mountains, with the birdcage in the center, and the Birdland lift on the left.
